An Illinois man has been arrested after confessing to poaching deer in Wisconsin on December 26, according to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office. The man, Misbau Syed, 48 of Naperville IL., was arrested after police received a complaint about gunfire from the local Woodman Township.

Witnesses were able to provide deputies with a description of two vehicles as well as both partial and full license plate numbers. Officers were able to track down both of the vehicles within city limits.

The officers spoke to one man, Syed, who admitted to using his headlights to shine deer before taking a doe, after legal hunting hours on private property. Syed has been charged with illegally shining deer, hunting after hours and transporting a loaded firearm in a vehicle.

Authorities seized both the doe and the rifle. Both the Fennimore Police Dept. and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources assisted the sheriff’s office during their investigation.
