I don’t care what your gun looks like, how new it is, or how expensive it is. Putting it in a case makes sense, even better, why not a floating case?  Rig ‘Em Right has a Floating Full Choke Gun Case that is a durable, and secure way to protect your waterfowl gun while in the marsh, field, or blind.

The Purpose Of Rig ‘Em Right

A little background on using a gun case. I know many who opt to leave their guns exposed.  I have dropped my gun in the water more than once but luckily it was shallow.  Some folks have not been so lucky especially as they hauled their gear in by boat. Each year the season ends, and the marshes are drained for planting. Guns wash up on the shore.  Unfortunately, they are ruined. Believe me, if the owner had known where the gun fell off they would have exhausted themselves looking to find that gun.

The floatation padding is excellent and will not saturate and sink.  I would guess a gun could float for years in the case until found.

I also know it is a good idea to keep your gun in a case when in the truck, car, or boat to protect it from wear.  I left mine in the bottom of my layout boat and after the drive home, I found where the gun finish had been worn off.  I also know people, dogs, and water find their way to guns and often in cold weather render them useless until thawed.  Yes, I have experienced this too.

It takes little in the way of an object lesson to know putting your gun in a case is a good idea.  This was a one-way trip home forgetting my gun was in the boat.

Not Waterproof

The gun case is not waterproof. It is intended to keep your gun from sinking.  I inserted my 7.8-pound Browning Wicked Wing semi-automatic into the case and tossed it into the pool.  The case floats as is advertised and floats high in the water.  Should you experience a lost overboard gun you will find it or someone hopefully trustworthy will find it and return it.

Say what a great idea to put your name on the case and your gun in some way.  As I said it floats but it is not intended to be waterproof nor is it advertised as such.  No case is waterproof for many reasons.  The gun goes in wet, condensation and even when closed it can get wet inside.  The Velcro closure securely holds the guns but does not keep water out when it is dunked.

The lining is easy to dry out when wet.

Floatation

My experience with the gun in the pool was in a short time all was wet inside.  The gun and the case needed to be dried.  But, again the purpose of a floating gun case completely exceeds this criterion.  What I will say is in a driving rain, dripping water from your dog, your waders or snow and ice, the inside of the gun will stay pretty dry.  That goes a long way for my gun and me.

The soft floatation not only floats but, protects the gun from bumps and bruises that otherwise would occur without a padded case.  When the gun is not in the case and it is thrown back in the boat, covered with wet decoy bags and water in the bottom of the boat the case will resist that water.  Only while floating on the water does it eventually get wet inside.  The nylon liner dries very quickly unlike perhaps a cloth liner that will hold water.

Rig ‘Em Right Material

Rig ‘Em Right’s case is made from durable water-repellent Cordura, thickly padded, for floatation, a hard EVA tip, heavy-duty metal hardware, a padded shoulder strap, outside pocket, and is finished in Core Optifade Marsh camouflage.  At 53” long it will accommodate even the longest of guns in all gauges.

Great heavy-duty hardware for the strap that can easily be removed.

The secured end of the case is in the water.  It will not come loose from this closure.

Fold-Over Closure

I would also add that the Rig ‘Em Right gun case has a fold-over closure that is secured with Velcro.  It is not advertised as waterproof, but rather a floating case capable of saving you a lost gun and keeping the gun dry in moist environments.  The opening is large enough to allow both your gun and a strap to fit in the case.  No more broken zippers to deal with.
