Is that an M-16? No, It’s a Bushmaster XM15A2 — SHOT Show 2024

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

At Range Day, I had the opportunity to test fire and learn more about the Bushmaster XM15A2. This rifle isn’t a brand-new model but a throwback to the classic era of Bushmaster. Its recreation is a nostalgic nod to the brand’s early days, and a celebration of Bushmasters 50th anniversary.

The model pays homage to the past by featuring the A2 carry handle and a 20-inch barrel – a design that resonates with the brand’s enthusiasts. The Bushmaster team has been working to rebuild and restore the standard associated with the Bushmaster name, particularly the renowned Windham quality.

According to Bushmaster’s representative, when people visit their booth, they often share stories about how their first AR was a Bushmaster or how their grandpa used to own one. The XM15A2 aims to capture and celebrate those memories.

The rifle features a 20-inch chrome-lined barrel, chrome-lined bolt carrier group, classic A2 furniture, and A2 front sight. The inclusion of Milspec grip and stock, along with a recast A2 upper, enhances the overall appeal.

Featuring an enlarged carry handle, the XM15A2 is great for those with larger hands. The design is more user-friendly than a flat top with the A2 carry handle.

Speaking to the Bushmaster representative, he said “This brings back that classic vibe of the M-16 look. It’s not an M-16, but that look is here, and people really resonate with it when they roll off the booth.”

In terms of availability, the limited Silver and Gold editions are already with dealers. Additionally, the standard model is expected to hit production in the first quarter.

It has an MSRP set at $1,296.95. Interested buyers can find it on the website within the next two or three weeks at bushmaster.com
