Frequently, a full-size handgun is followed by smaller versions as the market demands.
But in the case of FN’s new 509 Full-Size MRD pistol, they’ve now released a full-size version of their popular compact 509. Originally for law enforcement, now everyone has access.
The Full-Size MRD has a 4.5″-long barrel which makes a longer sight radius for more accuracy. Also, the grip is taller and it takes 17-round mags.
Surprisingly, suppressor-height sights are standard, as is the optics-cut slide that works with all the major optics. Not surprisingly, interchangeable grip straps are included, too. What aren’t they including with this gun?
Its double-action trigger weighs-in between 4.5 and 6 lbs., and the gun is striker-fired.
Unlike other guns that are ambidextrous-friendly with magazine releases that can be swapped to one side or the other, the 509’s release and slide catch are ambidextrous out-of-the-box.
FN’s 509 Full-Size MRD is available now in black or tan, and the MSRP starts at $899.
