New Guide Series knives are made by the son of the original designer.

Browning’s knives are always made with quality materials and thoughtful designs. As with their guns, they offer many options, but not hundreds of options.

Browning is confident in their designs because they are made by people who use them. Let’s look at three knives Browning is rolling out this year.

Hiben Guide Series

Browning first offered knives in 1969, and they were designed by Gil Hiben. For 2024, Browning worked closely with Gil’s son, Wes Hiben. This heritage in design is attractive because they’ve made knives that parents and grandparents will pass on, too.

Wes’s guide series is a standout model. This is the small fixed blade. It’s got a great general-purpose shape with plenty of form to help your hand index and keep it working, even when it’s out of sight in a deer’s chest cavity. The finger choil and jimping on the spine help keep your fingers safe by letting them know where the edges are.

Similarly, the laminated micarta scales will stay in your hand even when wet. And it comes with a tight leather sheath.

The Guide’s husky blade is formed from Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel. This steel is hard enough to keep an edge well, but not so hard that you can’t touch it up in the field.

Browning’s Guide Series Small Fixed is available now for $169.

Backcountry Deep Belly

The Back Country knife is a quality lightweight option.

Lightweight backcountry knives are all the rage right now. You can save a lot of weight in a dense package like a knife. Browning’s Back Country Small Deep Belly Fixed knife is a surprisingly affordable addition to the lightweight knife market.

Remarkably, the 2.75″ blade is made from D2 steel. This is a hard steel that is still easy to touch up with a v-sharpener in the field. It’s also got textured G10 scales and a hi-visibility Kydex sheath, all for only $59.

It’s got D2 steel and G10 scales for a low price.

Those are two knives that I would happily carry and use for hunting, and more importantly, I would feel value added to them each time I used them. I would pass them on with stories to my progeny.

Primal Kill Kit, Large

Browning is also offering this excellent large Primal Kill Kit this year. It’ll be available in September and comes with four large game bags suitable for Elk quarters, as well as one smaller bag for backstraps, organs, and trim. Plus, the kit has zip ties, paracord, gloves, and a two-bladed folding knife with 10 replacement blades.

The main blade is a tough 8CR13MOV steel with a good shape for processing large game. It also has a scalpel knife with replaceable blades. The blade has a terrific lock mechanism that allows you to change blades without endangering your fingers.
