The Umarex FishR Makes Waves In Bowfishing! — SHOT Show 2024

Estimated reading time: 4 minutes

Are you a fan of bowfishing, or perhaps intrigued by the idea of combining air rifles with this age-old practice? Well, you’re in luck!

At the recent SHOT Show Industry Day at the Range, we ran into a new bowfishing product offered by Umarex. At their booth, Scott introduced us to the brand-new FishR, which is sure to make waves in the bowfishing community when it is available to consumers around midsummer this year.

The Fisher HR is an innovative take on Umarex’s proven and successful AirJavelin platform, known for its air launching mechanism. Because Umarex is based in the central United States where bowfishing is immensely popular, they decided to venture into creating a specialized bowfishing air gun.

The result? A sleek and robust air rifle outfitted with saltwater-tolerant, rust-resistant hardware, making it a versatile tool for fishing enthusiasts in even the harshest environments.

According to Scott, the FishR already has been proven in the field and has taken stingray, alligator, carp, gar, and more. This air rifle is not just a concept; it’s been put to the test in various challenging environments.

Let’s dive into the features of the FishR. It comes equipped with a universal reel mount, allowing users to choose their preferred bow fishing reel. That said, it does not come with a reel so one must be purchased separately.

The FishR that we shot at the range had a bottle-type reel. At the front of the rifle, you’ll find a dual-purpose design – a filling point for the air tank and a line puller that the line can be looped around. This is for those moments when you need an extra pull point, especially when dealing with larger catches like alligators.

Curious about the air tank’s capacity? The FishR provides approximately 60 to 65 shots per fill, making it a reliable tool for extended bow fishing sessions. The system can also be filled with a portable tank in the field.

A simple sliding grommet located on the arrow shaft is the point of attachment for your fishing line, allowing the arrow to be loaded into the FishR without the line compromising the gas seal.

Any arrow tip can be used with this system, but we used a blunt at the range purely to avoid damage to the demonstration pool.

As I said earlier, the FishR is expected to be available by midsummer this year. Its price point is $499.00. Umarex aims to offer a compelling, high-value option for bowfishing enthusiasts.

Whether you’re dealing with invasive carp, or just looking for a unique way to enjoy bow fishing, the Umarex FishR provides an exciting and efficient experience.
