PWS’ Modular, Multi-Caliber Battle Rifle! Meet the UXR Rifle from PWS — SHOT Show 2024

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

True Pearce, the managing editor of GunsAmerica, brings us an exclusive first look at a groundbreaking firearm that’s hitting the market: the Primary Weapon Systems (PWS) UXR Rifle. This isn’t just any rifle—it’s a brand-new entry into the firearms world, and it’s packed with features that are bound to pique your interest.

True dives into the details of the UXR, a rifle that boasts a bevy of innovative features. It’s a piston-driven, fully ambidextrous, modular, and multi-caliber platform.

Currently configured in 5.56, the rifle allows easy caliber switching—just loosen a few screws, swap the barrel, and you’re basically set to shoot in 300 Blackout, 308, 6.5 Creedmoor, or even 7.62×39. This versatility extends to its magazine compatibility, with options for AK mags after a simple mag well and bolt face swap.

The UXR also features side charging capabilities from either side, a non-reciprocating side charger that folds back for convenience, and a side folding stock that can be mounted to fold in either direction. What’s more, it can be fired with the stock folded, offering flexibility in various shooting scenarios.

The rifle’s 16-inch barrel with shorter and (precision rifle) longer versions on the horizon, is crafted in-house at Primary Weapon Systems. They take solid steel, machine, rifle, contour, and chamber it all under their roof, allowing them to guarantee MOA accuracy—a rare feat for a battle rifle.

In terms of customization, the UXR doesn’t disappoint. It will come with options for different colors, accessories and handguards, including full ARCA rail handguards. The upper is one solid piece, ensuring that mounting a scope or other optics won’t affect zeroing.

An interesting aspect of the UXR is that the upper is the serialized part, meaning everything else can be shipped through the mail, including replacement kits or caliber conversion kits. While these kits aren’t cheap, they’re not exorbitantly priced either—around $500 for a switch from 556 to 308, for instance.

The rifle weighs in at a relatively light 6.8 lbs compared to other battle rifles. It comes with a fully adjustable stock, including an adjustable cheek piece and length of pull. It’s compatible with any AR grip and trigger and comes equipped with a 2 lb TriggerTech straight from the factory.

Another standout feature is the adjustable gas system. This allows users to adjust how much gas is blown back to tune the rifle perfectly when being shot either suppressed or unsuppressed.

True encourages viewers to check out the full interview and breakdown of the UXR rifle where every feature of the gun is dissected in detail (see extended interview below).

In closing, True questions whether the UXR could be the last rifle one might ever need to buy, or if it sounds too good to be true. What are your thoughts?
