Optics firm Vortex is rolling out a true 1-10×24 riflescope. Built on a 34mm aircraft-grade aluminum tube, the Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP scope is offered with two lit reticle options (MOA or MRAD).
Making an optic with a range of 1- to 10-power magnification range with true 1x magnification isn’t an easy feat and the price reflect this. The suggested retail price for the new Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP scope is $2,899.
Real-world and online pricing should be less, and some vendors are offering an introductory price of around $2,000 but this is a premium optic and will carry a premium price for some time to come.
Vortex optics are used by military and police, hunters and sporting shooters and competition shooters including multi-gun and 3 Gun competitors. This optic is suitable for all of these roles including shooting out to 1,000 yards or more, depending on the skill of the user.
“When we began this project, we started with a single goal – create the world’s premier low power variable riflescope,” said David Hamilton, Vortex Optics Chief Development Officer in a press release obtained by GunsAmerica.
“The list of ‘Wants,’ was robust to say the least. It had to serve users with needs from CQB to long range. We knew it would be challenging. We also knew we wouldn’t quit until we had it right. That’s just in our DNA,” Hamilton continued.
The Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP scope comes with Vortex’s EBR-9 reticle with a center red target ring in either MOA or MRAD versions. The lit center reticle has variable brightness settings from low light to full daylight.
And while it is a powered optic with a 34mm body, the Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP scope is still relatively light at 21.5 ounces. Included with every scope are a sunshade, a set of lens covers, a lens cleaning cloth, one CR2032 power cell, a removable extended throw lever, and an adjustment tool.
As expected the glass elements are multi-coated to maximize light transmission and optimized to ensure good edge-to-edge sharpness and color integrity.

Being a scope with a first focal plane, the reticle stays the same size relative to the target to maintain the same holdovers at all magnification ranges. The reticle is glass-etched for durability and use with high-recoiling rifles. It’s also shock-proof, fog-proof and water-resistant.
While yes, it is expensive, the Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP comes with a strong feature set and measuring in at just over 10 inches long, is about the same size and weight as 1-8x and even some 1-6x scopes.
Vortex is entering a new world of performance with the Razor HD Gen III 1-10×24 FFP. This will be a must-have optic for a lot of shooters out there, budget permitting.
