Having used the Dedito Luca boots across continents—Africa, Alaska, the Midwest, and Montana—for eight months, I can vouch for their stellar performance. With a stiffness rating of about 6.5 to 7, they hit the sweet spot: stiff enough for mountain hunting, yet flexible for comfort during any hunt in the Midwest or the East.
I embarked on a 10-day hunt right off the bat without the luxury of breaking them in. Impressively, I ended the journey without a single blister, despite trekking 5 to 7 miles daily. This is noteworthy because most boots typically start causing discomfort if not properly broken in.
The build quality? A solid 10 out of 10.
From turkey to elk hunts, these boots have proven themselves versatile and reliable. While I might opt for something slightly stiffer for Mountain Goat or Dall sheep terrains, the Luca boots are perfect for elk hunting and similar adventures.
A unique feature that stands out is the innovative roller system for lacing, ensuring ease and consistency in tightening. A word of caution though: it’s easy to over-tighten. Before setting off, ensure your boots aren’t pinching. This minor concern pales in comparison to the hassle-free experience these rollers offer.
My maiden journey in these boots was through the Crew Mountain Range in South Africa. Amidst a high desert, mountainous climate, and cacti-strewn terrains, the Luca boots provided unmatched safety and comfort. In Montana’s steep country, they felt tailor-made for the crazy mountains just north of Bozeman.
On an Alaskan mountain goat hunt, the boots showcased their limits well. Though reliable, consider a boot with about 25% more stiffness for extreme mountaineering hunts where crampons are necessary.
I wholeheartedly recommend the Dedito Luca boots for any non-mountaineering hunt. Ideal for elk or deer hunts, they offer essential support and durability across diverse terrains. Their performance in the lower 48 and beyond is flawless, a testament to the impressive craftsmanship Dedito prides itself on.
